The lip filler problem
- Volume with no border. The lip gets bigger without getting a shape, and that is the look people are actually reacting to when they say they can tell.
- Ignoring the rest of the face. Lips are read in proportion to chin and jaw. Filling lips on a recessed chin makes the profile worse, not better.
- Too much in one visit. Lips swell dramatically, so you cannot judge the result on the day, and by the time you can it is too late to change your mind.
How I do it
I look at your profile before your lips. If your chin needs support, I’ll tell you that first, even though it’s not what you booked for.
Small amounts, built over more than one appointment. If you want big, I’m honestly not your injector and I’d rather say that at consult than after.
Border, then shape, then volume if it’s still needed. Often it isn’t.
What is included
- An assessment of your lips in proportion to chin, jaw and midface
- Numbing, because lips are the one area worth it
- Conservative placement, usually under a full syringe on a first visit
- A two week review before anything more goes in

- Properly swollen for two to three days, and it will look like more than we put in. Do not book this the week of an event. Day five is when you start seeing the actual result and two weeks is when I want to look at it.
- Can it be dissolved if I hate it?
- Yes, and lips are the most common area I dissolve. Mine and other people’s. No lecture either way.
